Identity

Print

Visual identity for Touch, Black Paintings, a retrospective of Turkish artist Arif Aşçı. Programmed and curated by Perasma gallery.

The graphic identity was crafted to mirror the depth and texture of his work. Posters and show texts used a stark monochromatic palette of Aşçı's work, with bold typography whilst his paintings themselves, characterised by their dark, layered surfaces, were used to distort and deteriorate the text. This created a consistent design language that emphasised tactility and contrast, but produced endless variations and happy surprises.

The challenge

Texture variations

The patterns and textures of the work were used to distress the main typographic composition, thereby providing unlimited and unique variations whilst maintaining a strong and consistent identity
